For nearly 3 years now we have been hearing about oil and gas industry layoffs, and how much pain this has caused to families throughout the USA. Sure, we're on the "verge" of a turnaround, but how long before we're back operating where we were? Will we ever get there? This has caused people to change jobs, careers, industries, and even venture into entrepreneurship to make ends meet. To make it even more difficult, health insurance premiums are at an all time high leaving people with little to no affordable health coverage. As a business owner, my family of 5 would cost me $1900/month if I was still with United Healthcare, not on group insurance. Even GIANT corporations are only footing half the insurance bill, which leaves the employee with over $800/month for his/her portion much of the time.
We currently pay only $450/month for UNLIMITED COVERAGE, read further to Discover How. There is a light at the end of this tunnel, however. According to the "Affordable Care Act", there are certain organizations that can provide high quality health coverage for individuals (not groups), if they meet certain guidelines. Meeting these guidelines can be done by anyone with the desire for lower health coverage costs, and there are very few restrictions. Typically, these programs will have either a "per incident deductible" or an "annual responsibility". This will be either $500/incident, or up to $1500 annually for an entire family. Unlike typical insurance, you will go to the doctor as a "self-pay" and request to be billed for the services. You will then send the bill to the plan administrator of the coverage, and they'll send you a check for the amount of the bill, less your "annual responsibility" or "per incident deductible". This type of coverage isn't really for the sniffles. So if you enjoy weekly doctor checkups and co-pays, this may not save you much money. However, for the typical American family, who rarely meet their annual deductible, this will be a Godsend. You see, for a family of five right now, you can expect to pay anywhere from $1500 to $1900/month, with a high deductible. With the program I have my family on, our cost is only $450/month....unlimited coverage. This includes maternity (if on plan for 300 days before due date of child), and even pre-existing condition coverage. My family would be paying $1900/month right now, with United Healthcare on my old plan that I used to have. My insurance agent told me that is what my same plan is going for now in Mississippi. This is absurd, and just not workable for us oilfield guys trying to send multiple kids to private schools, paying a house note, and even a car note, while putting food on the table. $450/month for my unlimited health coverage is saving me over $1450/month. This is money I can use for life insurance and investments in my family's future.
